Taking Action
Your task is to write an email of complaint and send it to your teacher. Choose one of the range of scenarios and use the templates on the website to help you structure your response.
Your rights as a consumer
Before you write your email, you need to understand your rights as a consumer. Visit the ACCC Website to find out about your rights and answer the following questions.
1. What does ACCC stand for?
2. What is a consumer guarantee?
3. If you bought a spanner and it broke when you tried to remove a tight bolt, why would you be entitled to a replacement or refund? Quote the wording from the ACCC guarantee that you could use in your email to make your case.
4. What is meant by "Repair, Replacement, Refund"?
5. If a business has a sign that says "No refund", can they refuse to refund your goods if they are faulty? Quote the relevant section of the webpage you would use to support your application for a refund.

The Scenarios
SCENARIO ONE
You bought a bracelet at Bellaboo which broke within a week. It was not a cheap item. You paid $50.00 and expected a certain level of quality for your money. Though the store claims that they do not refund and will only exchange items, you don't want to buy another one as the quality was not satisfactory and you don't trust the quality of the goods that Bellaboo sell anymore. You want to spend your money elsewhere. Write an email of complaint to the store in order to remedy the situation to your satisfaction. |
SCENARIO TWO
You purchased Grand Theft Auto: Vice City from Actogames. When you got home, the disc was scratched and would not work in your PlayStation. You went back to the store to exchange it but the store said it had a strictly-no-exchange policy and the young sales assistant suggested you scratched the disc yourself and would not exchange. Write an email to the store manager in order to remedy the situation to your satisfaction. |
